Caption: Flower stigma. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a flower's stigma (orange) and style (brown). These are part of a plant's female reproductive structures. Pollen grains, a flower's male reproductive cells, land on the stigma and burrow a tube down through the style to the ovary, where they fertilise the female sex cell (ovule). Magnification: x40 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
