Caption: False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of pollen grains from flowers of the rape plant, Brassica napus, showing the single "furrow" along the length of each grain, through which the pollen tube emerges at the time of germination. The pollen tube conducts the male nuclei down the flower's female reproductive structures prior to fertilisation - through the stigma, down the style and into the ovary. Magnification: x110 at 35mm size.
