Caption: A bumblebee (family Bombini), gathering pollen from the flower of a poppy plant. A pollen basket is visible on the knee of the bee, into which is crammed the grains of pollen for transportation back to the nest. Much of the pollen attached to the hairs of the bee will be brushed off on the stigmas of flowers visited by the bee, thereby insuring pollination of the plant.
