Caption: Stigma. Coloured scanning electron micrograph of a stigma of the Large Bitter Cress (Cardamine amara). The stigma is a sticky surface at the tip of the carpel of a flower which receives the pollen. In plants pollinated by insects the stigma lies within the flower; but for wind-pollinated plants the stigma is external. Magnification x150 at 6x4.5cm size.
