Caption: Iris nebula (NGC 7023), optical image. This nebula, lying 1300 light years away in the constellation Cepheus, is so-called because of its resemblance to a flower. It is a reflection nebula, or a cloud of fine dust particles that scatters light from the central massive, hot young star. It appears blue because short-wavelength blue light is scattered more than red.
