Caption: Emission nebula IC 1805, optical image. IC 1805, also known as the Heart nebula, is made from glowing gas and dust clouds. The nebula glows red because the cluster of hot young stars at the centre (Melotte 15) emits radiation that ionises the hydrogen gas within the nebula's clouds. The closely affiliated nebula NGC 896 can be seen as a bright region at upper right, separated from IC 1805 by a strand of dark nebulosity. These nebulae lie around 7000 light years from Earth, in the constellation Cassiopeia.
