Caption: Starbirth region H206, infrared Spitzer Space Telescope (SST) image. The SST's infrared imaging sees past clouds of dust to newborn stars inside active nebulae. In H206 (Henize 206), a supernova triggered the formation of stars (bright white) in the clouds of gas and dust (red and green). The stars are thought to be relatively young: 2-10 million years old. The ring (green), extending up towards upper centre, is the remnant of the shockwave from the supernova. H206 lies in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, and is around 163,000 light years from Earth. Image published in 2004.
