Caption: Hyades and Pleiades star clusters. Optical photo- graph of the Hyades and Pleiades star clusters in the constellation Taurus. North is at top left corner. Silhouetted saguaro cacti (Carnegiea gigantea) are seen at lower left. The Hyades form a V-shape to the right of centre. The Hyades cluster contains over 200 stars, of which several are visible to the naked eye. The bright star Aldebaran (Alpha Tauri) seen in the cluster is not actually a member at all, lying half the distance to the cluster at around 60 light years. The Pleiades cluster (top centre) lies 380 light years away, and is thought to contain over 500 stars. Photographed near Ajo, Arizona, USA.
