Caption: M39 open star cluster, optical image. Star cluster M39 (NGC 7092) is around 300 million years old and lies about 800 light years away from Earth in the constellation of Cygnus. The cluster contains around 30 stars. Open star clusters contain fewer and younger stars than globular clusters. This image is a mosaic of 33 images obtained by the WIYN 0.9-metre telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona, USA, on 15th September 2003.
