Caption: Pollination. View of a hornet, Vespa crabro, pollinating an American plum (Prunus sp. ). Plums are cultivated in orchards in temperate regions of the world for their hard-stoned fruit. As the hornet travels from flower to flower it transfers the yellow pollen, pollinating the female parts of the flower and resulting in the subsequent production of fruit. Photographed in Nebraska, USA.
