Caption: False acacia pollen. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of pollen grains from the false acacia, or locust tree (Robinia pseudoacacia). The false acacia originated in the eastern USA but is now grown throughout the world as an ornamental tree. Bees are especially fond of its flowers and play a major part in pollinating the tree. The bark, seeds and roots of the tree are poisonous. Magnification: x1900 at 35mm size.
