Caption: Cosmic wave. Conceptual computer artwork of a spinning black hole, dragging with it the fabric of space and time, including light. This cosmic wave, a twirling accretion disk, spins as fast as 33,000 kilometres per second, dragging in material from a nearby star. The huge gravitational forces occur when the core of a star collapses under its own weight. These forces are so massive that, beyond a boundary (event horizon), nothing, not even light, can escape. This makes them invisible to the naked eye.
