Caption: Ragwort pollen. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of pollen grains of the ragwort plant (Senecio sp.), a member of the sunflower family (Asteraceae). It grows in pastures and wasteland across Europe. The outer wall (exine) of each pollen grain has a spiky structure, which may serve to adhere the pollen to insect pollinators. The pollen carries the male genetic information of the plant. Magnification unknown.
