Caption: Cosmos flower pollination. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of pollen (red balls) on part of the pistil (female reproductive structure) of a cosmos (Cosmos sp.) flower. Pollen grains are produced by the anthers (male reproductive parts, not seen). Pollen grains that land on a pistil may then transfer a male reproductive cell (male gamete) to the ovary (not seen) where it can fertilise a female gamete, producing the seed for a new plant. Magnification unknown.
