Caption: False colour radio image of the region surrounding Sagittarius A (Sgr A), the centre of our Galaxy, at a wavelength of 20 cm taken by the Very Large Array (VLA) radio telescope, New Mexico. A series of narrow, unbroken radio-emitting filaments make up a structure known as the continuum arc (upper left). Note the two long threads of radio emission to the west (right) of the arc. A halo, 8 arcmin in diameter, surrounds a part of Sgr A known as the Sgr A East shell (lower right). This halo consists of a number of large scale protrusions, perpendicular to the Galactic plane.
