Caption: Galactic centre. Coloured composite infrared image of the centre of our galaxy, the Milky Way, taken by NASA's Midcourse Space Experiment (MSX) satellite. It is brightest towards the centre and contains about two hundred billions stars. The field of view in this image is about 1.5 by 2.5 degrees. The MSX satellite was launched in April 1996 on a ten month mission to map the Galactic Plane, large galaxies, asteroids and comets.
