Spiral galaxy. Optical image of NGC 1288, a face- on spiral galaxy. NGC 1288 has a diamter of 200,000 light years, and is 300 million light years from Earth. This image was made with the 8.2-metre Very Large Telescope 'Antu' at the Cerro Paranal Observatory, Chile.
