Caption: Rape pollen. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of pollen grains on the anther of a rape flower (Brassica napus). Pollen is the male sex cells of a flowering plant. It is borne on the anthers, the male parts of the flower. Pollen is carried by insects to other flowers, where it contacts the pistil (female parts) of the flower. It then burrows down to the ovule and fertilises the ovary, forming a seed.
