Caption: Abell S 1101 galaxy cluster, X-ray image. Also called Sirsic 159-03, the X-ray data is represented by the yellow contour lines, which are superimposed on an optical image of the galaxy cluster. The graph at bottom shows how the temperature of the intergalactic medium varies across the region. Image data obtained by ESA's XMM-Newton space telescope. Image processing carried out by SRON (the Space Research Organization of the Netherlands). Results published in 2000.
