An unseen, hypothetical matter known as dark matter may explain this large gravitational attraction. Galaxy clusters contain between a few tens to several thousands of galaxies. Supercomputer simulations allow researchers to examine the effects of dark matter on galaxy clusters. This image was produced by Daniel Price using SPLASH astrophysical simulation software.
