Caption: Radio spectrum of the quasar 3C 273 in the band between 280 and 520 MegaHertz. 3C 273 was the first quasar to be identified in 1963 and it is the nearest to the Milky Way galaxy. The picture shows the evolution of the radio emission as a function of time. The strength of the emission goes from blue through green, yellow and orange. The four strips, starting from the top, give the temporal evolution of the radio activity on 40 second interval. The two major features are the strong variability and the different radio emission at different frequencies at a given time.
