Launched on March 16, 1966, Gemini 8 made the first space docking - with an Agena target vehicle. A malfunctioning thruster caused the spacecraft to roll dangerously, however, & the crew made an emergency splashdown after 7 Earth orbits. The photograph shows rescue personnel outside the spacecraft.
