Caption: Photograph showing a 1. 5inch silicon disc carrying: statements by Presidents Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy & Eisenhower; messages of goodwill from leaders of 73 nations; and the names of Congressional leaders & NASA officials. The disc was left on the Moon by the Apollo 11 astronauts, the first men ever to walk on the Moon. Shown alongside the disc is a sampling of the messages which were reduced photographically 200x in size & etched onto the disc. Apollo 11 was launched on 16 July, 1969 & it landed on the Moon on 20 July.
