Caption: Apollo 8 mission control at Houston, Texas, USA. The Apollo 8 spacecraft launched from Cape Canaveral (now Kennedy Space Centre), Florida, USA, on 21 December 1968. This was the second manned Apollo mission and the first to be launched by a Saturn V rocket. The crew flew to the moon and orbited it 10 times before returning to Earth on 27 December.
