Caption: Apollo 11 astronauts and Nixon, 1969. President Nixon (right) welcoming the Apollo 11 astronauts to the USS Hornet, 24 July 1969. The astronauts are confined in a Mobile Quarantine Unit following their return from the Moon. From left to right the astronauts are: Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin E. (Buzz) Aldrin. Collins remained in orbit about the Moon, while Armstrong and Aldrin, on 20 July 1969, were the first humans to land on the Moon. The command module (Columbia) landed in the Pacific on 24 July. Following decontamination procedures, the three astronauts were placed in quarantine for 18 days until 10 August 1969. This US postcard dates from 1969.
