Caption: Apollo 11 mission. Saturn V rocket being carried on a transporter in preparation for the Apollo 11 mission, the first manned mission to land on the Moon. The 109-metre tall rocket was carried 5.6 kilometres from its assembly building to a launch pad at less than 1.6 kilometres per hour. The "crawler" vehicle, launch tower and rocket together weigh about 9000 tonnes. Apollo 11 was launched on 16 July 1969 from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA. Aboard were astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin. The lunar module arrived on the Moon in the Sea of Tranquility on 20 July 1969. Photographed on 20 May 1969.
