Caption: Apollo 14 photograph of a seismograph. This is a device used for recording seismic waves which propogate through the planetary body following earthquakes, explosions or impact phenomena. The seismograph is standing on a thermal protective blanket in the photo, and an alignment device is resting on top of it. This is all part of the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP). Apollo 14 was launched on 31 Jan, 1971.
