Caption: Apollo 11 view showing the approach to Tranquility Base, where astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin made the first lunar landing on 20 July, 1969. Tranquility Base is just visible on the terminator (day-night boundary) to the right of centre. The photograph was taken from the lunar module whilst still in lunar orbit. The dark area at lower left is one of the lunar module thrusters. For an idea of scale, the large impact crater at lower right (Maskelyne) is 210km from the landing site.
