Caption: Melting ice. View of a drop of water falling from the edge of a block of melting ice. Ice melts at 0 degrees Celsius, or 273 Kelvin, at standard atmospheric pressure. The presence of impurities in the water will lower its melting point. Ice is less dense than water (and thus floats) as water expands into a crystalline structure as it freezes.
