Caption: Apollo-Soyuz Project crew in July 1975. This was a joint project between the USA and the USSR (flags at left and right). The Soviet cosmonauts (green suits), commander Alexei Leonov (born 1934, back row, right) and engineer Valery Kubasov (1935-2014, front row, right), launched in a Soyuz capsule. The US astronauts (orange suits), led by Thomas Stafford (born 1930, back row), with the pilots Donald (Deke) Slayton (1924-1993, front row, left) and Vance Brand (born 1931, front row, centre), launched in an Apollo capsule. The two capsules successfully docked in Earth orbit (shown by the model at lower centre). The larger Apollo capsule is at left, while the smaller Soyuz capsule is at right. The mission took place in July 1975.
