Caption: Launch of Mission STS-66. Space Shuttle Atlantis leaving the launchpad at the start of Mission STS- 66 on 3 November 1994. This was the first flight of Atlantis after two years of refurbishment. For this mission, Atlantis carried the third Atmospheric Laboratory for Applications and Science (ATLAS-3), and the free-flying CRISTA-SPAS infrared atmospheric monitoring package. The crew of six included Jean-Francois Clervoy, an astronaut from the European Space Agency. Atlantis returned safely to Earth on 14 November 1994. This image was made using a fisheye lens on a camera fitted to part of the launch tower.
