During this mission, STS-83, the shuttle's crew performed various experiments in the Microgravity Science Laboratory (MSL-1). The shuttle's crew for this mission was James Halsell (commander), Susan Still (pilot), Janice Voss (payload commander), mission specialists Michael Gernhardt and Donald Thomas, and payload specialists Roger Crouch and Gregory Linteris. Photographed on 4 April 1997; a faulty fuel cell forced the shuttle to return on 8 April 1997.
