Caption: Shuttle launch. Launch of the space shuttle Discovery from Cape Canaveral in Florida, USA, at the beginning of mission STS-96 on 27th May 1999. Aboard were astronauts Kent V. Rominger (mission commander), Daniel T. Barry, Tamara E. Jernigan, and Ellen Ochoa (all mission specialists), Rick D. Husband (pilot). The two other crew members onboard (both mission specialists) were cosmonaut Valery I. Tokarev representing the Russian Space Agency (RSA), and Julie Payette representing the Canadian Space Agency. The nine day mission was a resupply mission for the International Space Station (ISS).
