Caption: Failed "Return to Flight" launch. Space shuttle Discovery at Launch Pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA, on 13 July 2005. This launch of Discovery, scheduled for 15:51 local time, was abandoned because a sensor in the main external fuel tank (orange) malfunctioned. Gases were venting from the base of the shuttle. This is part of mission STS-114, "Return to Flight", the first flight of a space shuttle since the space shuttle Columbia broke up on re-entry in February 2003. The sensor design was tested and the shuttle finally launched on 26 July 2005.
