Caption: Deployment of Eureca. The first European Retrievable Carrier (Eureca-1) satellite being deployed from Shuttle Atlantis. Eureca is at top centre, at the end of the Remote Manipulator Arm. The dome-shaped object in the cargo bay is the first Tethered Satellite System, TSS-1. In the background is the Persian Gulf, with Kuwait to the left of the Shuttle's tail fin. Eureca is a reuseable microgravity platform, designed for an orbital mission of up to a year. It is deployed and retrieved by the Shuttle, and carries various experiments in life and materials science and radiobiology. Eureca-1 was deployed on 1 August 1992 during Mission STS- 46.
