Caption: Payload Specialist Dr Mamoru Mohri participating in the Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment (SAREX) during Mission STS-47. SAREX has been flown on a number of Shuttle flights, and gives amateur radio 'hams' the chance to speak to crew members of the orbiting Space Shuttle. Mohri was the first Japanese member of a NASA flight crew. Mission STS-47 carried the joint NASA/Japan Spacelab-J life and materials science module into orbit. STS- 47 flew on Shuttle Endeavour between 12 and 20 September 1992.
