Caption: Spacewalk. Astronaut Steven L. Smith picks up a power ratchet tool during an Extravehicular activ- ity (EVA) or spacewalk as part of a space shuttle mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. Part of Hubble is seen in the background as it is temporarily stored in the cargo bay of the shuttle Discovery during mission STS-82 (11-21 February 1997). This mission was the second to service Hubble since its launch in 1990. During the servicing, improved instruments were added and some aging components were replaced. The shuttle also lifted the HST into a slightly higher orbit.
