Caption: The twisted, winged seed (samara) of the tree Ailantus glandulosa, a member of the Simarubaceae from China. The twisted wing causes the seed to spin as it falls, much like the more-familiar ash & sycamore samaras. The seed is thus borne away by the wind to colonise new ground away from the parent tree.
