Caption: Space shuttle astroculture. Ukrainian astronaut Leonid Kadenyuk working on turnip (Brassica rapa) plants while on the Space Shuttle Columbia during mission STS-87 (19 November to 5 December 1997) in Earth orbit. The plants were grown to investigate their growth in reduced gravity. This will help future plans for cultivating plants in space. This is the Collaborative Ukrainian Experiment (CUE) as part of the United States Microgravity Payload 4 (USMP-4) mission.
