Caption: ISS space walk. Astronaut Michael Gernhardt waving as he holds the end of the robotic arm (Canadarm2) of the International Space Station (ISS). Part of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus is seen on the Earth in the background. Gernhardt was part of the Space Shuttle Atlantis crew that flew this mission (STS-104, 12-24 July 2001) to install the ISS Quest airlock. The ISS is a joint effort between NASA, the European Space Agency, the Russian space agency, Canada, Japan and Brazil. It orbits at an altitude of 350 kilometres, has been manned since late 2000 and is scheduled for completion in 2004.
