Caption: Space Shuttle Discovery orbiting above the Earth. Its open cargo bay (top right), thrusters (upper right) and tail fin (centre) are seen. Discovery is docked to the International Space Station (ISS) as it carries out mission STS-105. The main aim of this mission, to rotate the crew of the ISS, was successfully achieved. Photographed on 16 August 2001. The ISS is a joint effort between the space agencies of the USA, Europe, Russia, Canada, Japan and Brazil. It orbits at an altitude of 350 kilometres, has been manned since October 2000 and is scheduled for completion in 2004.
