Caption: Illustration after a woodcut of 'Yellow Turky Wheat' (left) and 'Red Turky Wheat', both now known as varieties of maize (Zea mays). This illustration comes from John Gerard's "Herball, or General Historie of Plants" as revised by Johnson in 1633. The old specific names Frumentum indicum luteum (yellow) and Frumentum indicum rubrum (red) are used here.
