Moon base. Computer artwork showing what a future US base on the Moon might look like. The base is a lmixture of cylindrical and dome habitats. Solar panels supply power, and lunar rovers are used to travel on the surface. A radio antenna (centre) is used for communications with Earth (seen in the sky). The Moon is an airless rocky world, with a gravity that that is about a sixth of that on Earth. In 2004, the US announced plans to return astronauts to the Moon by 2020.
