Caption: Foxglove seed coat. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the testa or protective seed coat of a foxglove (Digitalis purpurea). The testa has an irregular honeycomb-like structure which traps particles of soil when the seed falls to the ground. This helps to anchor it, improving its chances of germination. Foxgloves grow in Europe and the USA in woodland and on dry heaths. Magnification: x1040 at 6x7cm size.
