Caption: Soviet cosmonauts. Group portrait of Soviet cosmonauts (from left to right): Valery Bykovsky, Valentina Tereshkova and Yuri Gagarin in 1963. Bykovsky spent 5 days in space aboard the Vostok 5 spacecraft in 1963 and 21 days in space in 1976 when he commanded Soyuz 22. Tereshkova was the first woman in space, travelling aboard Vostok 6 on 16 June 1963. Gagarin became the first man in space on 12 April 1961 aboard Vostok 1.
