Cosmonauts. Soviet cosmonauts Pavel Belyayev and Alexei Leonov in the cabin of the spacecraft Voskhod-2. Voskhod-2 was launched on 18 March 1965, returning to Earth after 26 hours. During the mission Leonov performed the first ever spacewalk. He used a special inflatable airlock to exit the spacecraft's capsule, while Belyayev remained inside. The spacewalk took place over the Ukraine and Caucasus mountains, and lasted 10 minutes. An umbilical cable carried oxygen to Leonov, as well as acting as his lifeline. The failure of one retro-rocket led to the spacecraft landing 2000 kilometres off-course.
