Caption: Postage stamp commemorating the Vostok 2 mission. Vostok 2 was a Soviet space mission, which carried cosmonaut German Titov (bottom left) into orbit around the Earth for 25 hours. Titov was only the second person in orbit, just four months after Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space. The main aim was to study the effects of a more prolonged period of weightlessness on the human body. The spacecraft was launched on 6th August 1961 and landed on 7th August 1961. These dates are displayed at the top right corner of the stamp.
