Caption: Buran, the Soviet space shuttle, being inspected on the runway at Baikonur Cosmodrome, USSR, after landing. Buran's test flight of November 15th 1988 lasted 3 hours and 25 minutes, during which time it completed 2 full orbits around Earth. Buran is remarkably similar in appearance to the American space shuttle, with one major difference. Whilst the American shuttle has its own engines, the rockets required to lift Buran into orbit are located on its launch vehicle, Energia.
