Caption: Rocketplane XP, suborbital space plane. Artwork of the proposed (as of 2008) private space plane, Rocketplane XP, landing. The plane, which will carry 5 passengers, is based on a modified Learjet aircraft and includes a reusable rocket engine that allows the plane to fly to suborbital altitudes (100 kilometres). Once it has reached suborbital altitude, passengers will experience weightlessness and an astronaut's view of the Earth. The XP will then descend in free-fall until it re-enters Earth's atmosphere where it will land under conventional jet power.
