Caption: Vanguard rocket launch. The launch of an un-manned, three-stage, Vanguard rocket (SLV-7) from Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA. The satellite onboard this vanguard rocket was known as Vanguard III and was used to study the Earth's magnetic field and radiation belt. Data transmission stopped on 11th December 1959, after 84 days of operation. Photographed on 18th September 1959.
